If you enjoy spending time outdoors with people who like to work hard and play hard then we have the job for you! We are looking for friendly, hardworking, adventurous people, with good attitudes, and great people skills. We have on-site housing for guides and provide the opportunity to learn and have fun.


We will train you to become an Ocoee River raft guide - no prior experience is needed. Not only will you learn to guide on the Ocoee River, but you will also receive training for climbing trips and become CPR/First Aid/AED certified. We also provide opportunities for Swift Water Rescue (SWR) and Basic Life Support (BLS) certifications.

An overview of some of the courses offered to our guides as they continue their Safety education and certifications.

Wilderness First Responder (WFR) / Wilderness Emergency Medical Technician Up-Grade (WEMTU): The 48-hour Wilderness First Responder course is taught in house by a certified National Association of Search and Rescue (NASAR) Instructor. The curriculum covers a vast array of medical and traumatic accidents and injuries. The course consists of a 31-unit presentation and class discussion coupled with skills practice and assessment scenarios. Students who successfully complete the course work are eligible to sit for the final exam for certification. The final exam consists of a cognitive and psychomotor assessment with supporting literacy elements for the “live” scenario. Those who are already licensed by a state jurisdiction or nationally registered at the EMT level will receive a Wilderness EMT upgrade certification in lieu of the Wilderness First Responder certification. Successful students will receive a 2-year certification at the applicable level.

Swift Water Rescue (SWR): This 16-hour Swift Water Rescue skills course is taught in house by a certified American Canoe Association Swift Water Rescue Instructor. The curriculum covers a vast array of water rescue skills and assessments. The course consists of both hands-on skills practice and assessments along with lectures and explanation of methodology and application. Students who complete the 16-hour course will be eligible for a certificate of participation. This also prepares the student to advance their credentials by scheduling with the instructor a skills assessment, in which successful completion allows the student to receive a certificate from the ACA national office.

Basic Life Support (BLS): This 8-12-hour course is taught in house by a certified Health and Safety Institute Instructor. This course is designed for professional rescuers, health care providers, and wilderness medical responders and guides. The course consists of presentation of curriculum, class discussions, and hands on practice. Students who complete the course are eligible to sit for the final exam which consists of both cognitive a psychomotor examination. Successful students will receive a 2-year certification in Basic Life Support.

CPR/First Aid/ AED: (Required for all guides) This 8-12-hour course is taught by a certified Health and Safety Institute Instructor. This course is the minimum in which a High-Country River Guide must have to be in employ. The course consists of presentation of curriculum, class discussions, and hands on practice. Students who complete the course are eligible to sit for the final exam which consists of both cognitive a psychomotor examination. Successful students will receive a 2-year certification in CPR/ First Aid/ AED.
